Boxing FAQ
Do I need to have done Boxing before?
Absolutely not, all ages, sexes and experience levels are welcome at Stick N Move Boxing. The learning environment is very friendly and non-threatening so that you can improve and train safely and effectively.
What happens in a typical Boxing lesson?
The techniques covered vary in every class so that you can learn all aspects of the sport. However all classes generally unfold as follows
- Warm up
- Strength and Conditioning
- Light body sparring or shadow boxing/ footwork
- Padwork/ drills
- Sparring (optional) or more drills
- Conditioning
Do only men attend the classes?
?No, in fact depending on which class you attend some classes are predominantly female. Everyone is welcome at Stick N Move as long as no ego is brought into the training as this can hinder peoples learning and is potentially dangerous.
Do I have to spar/ fight?
Definitely not. As mentioned earlier our aim is to help you train hard, achieve your goals and enjoy yourself. As a Boxing club sparring is obviously available for those who want it but it is absolutely optional and always closely monitored and supervised.
Can I fight for the club?
Yes. We regularly have fight nights and participate in inter-club and white collar shows. We are also in the midst of ABA registration for those who wish to compete as amateurs.
Will I get hurt?
As with any sport, especially contact sports accidents can happen so occasionally injuries may occur. However they are certainly not frequent and are very rare. The training environment is very friendly and supportive rather than ego focused especially when people from different experience levels train together. This helps keep injuries to an absolute minimum. The warm up is also very thorough to help prevent muscle strains.
What equipment do I need?
?If you have your own gloves feel free to bring them otherwise come down with a bottle of water, shorts, t-shirt or vest and training shoes to see if you like it. We have gloves and pads at each training centre that you are welcome to use. If you would like to train frequently it is recommended that you buy hand wraps which can be purchased at any Sports Direct for around £3 or you can place an order when you come to training and we will get them for you. Mouth guards are also essential for anyone wanting to train which again can be purchased cheaply at Sports Direct or ordered through us.
