The SU Running and Athletics Club organises weekly running sessions for runners of all abilities and distances. The team includes men and women, undergraduates and postgraduates, London natives and runners from countries all over the world.
Approximately every two weeks during term time, we participate in races organised by the London Colleges' League, with women running 4km (2.5 miles) and men running 8km (5 miles). Every year, our team includes both runners who routinely finish in the top 5 as well as people participating in races strictly for fun or fitness.
Our races are run in a variety of scenic parks throughout the greater London area, including Hackney Marshes, part of the 2012 Olympics site; Richmond Park, originally a deer-hunting park for royalty; Hampstead Heath, with its panoramic views of London; and many others. We also compete in a variety of other races, ranging from 5km to 10km. In past years, ambitious team members have run half marathons or even used our training sessions to prepare for the London Marathon. Some of our members also particpate in athletics competitions, competing in events ranging from shot put to high jump to the 100m.
Last but certainly not least, we try to get together about once a week for some sort of social event—a trip to the pub, a meal at one of London's affordable 'hidden gem' restaurants, etc. And yes, the boldest of our members have been known to attend the LSE Athletics Union's infamous Wednesday night festivities in the 3 Tuns.
Our normal training dates are:
Monday/Tuesday - Run in the mornings, timings will be confirmed weekly on facebook/email.
Wednesday - Trainings or Cross Country races. Meet at 1.30pm
Friday - Training, meet in school at 12.15pm.
Sunday - Outside run at 11am, location will be confirmed weekly on facebook/email.
There will be various ability groups/distance groups at all trainings so everyone is welcome to join! For more information please do not hesitate to send us an email at AU.CLUB.RUNNING@lse.ac.uk
