Biggles the Beaver
Biggles was born in 1922 but for a long time remained hidden away, presumably beneath the library somewhere. After a long battle to overcome his shyness, we were able to convince him to have his profile appear on the playing shirts of the sports teams who were representing LSE. For many years he was there in spirit with the teams but could not be convinced to appear in person. That remained the case until the Men's Tennis team of 2008 reached the national final and pleaded with the mystical Beaver to help them on their quest for glory. He duly responded and the team claimed a famous victory.
Biggles has been more prominent ever since and has been seen in public for many high profile SU events including campaign activities, social events and big sport matches but never actually had a name until it was voted upon by students in October 2009. Biggles was the clear winner and his profile continues to rise on campus.
