Athletics Union

Sport at LSE is the life and soul of the Students’ Union and is the largest community with over 3,000 members.

COMPETITIVE SPORT

We offer a wide range of competitive sports from Football and Badminton to Ultimate Frisbee and Mixed Martial Arts. Our clubs train and compete in and around LSE, we have 7 football pitches, 2 rugby pitches and 2 netball courts at our home grounds in Berrylands (only 20mins from Waterloo) as well as our on campus facilities including the LSESU Gym, squash, basketball and badminton courts and our brand new Exercise Studio. Our 80+ teams compete in two leagues in and around London, BUCS (British University College Sport) and LUSL (London Universities Sports Leagues) with the majority of fixtures played on a Wednesday afternoon.

ELITE SPORT

To support our top performing teams in the Premiership and Tier 1 we have a Focus Team programme including S&C sessions, aerial filming tecnology for tactics sessions, additional funding for top coaches, sports psychology and sports nutrition seminars as well as new training kit. In addition, we have a Sports Ambassador Scholarship Scheme for elite athletics representing their country or county while also studying at LSE. More details about this can be found to the right.

RECREATIONAL SPORT

If competitive sport is not for you, we are launching an ‘ACTIVE LifeStylE PROGRAMME’ funding by Sport England which includes semi-competitive intramural leagues (5-a-side football, basketball, badminton, squash and table tennis), drop in sessions (running, swimming, badminton, basketball, Zumba and boot camp), sports courses (golf, tennis, skiing and cricket), as well as 22 one off festivals of sport to celebrate commemorative dates eg. UV Sports on Guy Fawkes night, pancake flipping races on Shrove Tuesday and American Football taster sessions leading up to the Super Bowl.

AU SOCIALS

Every Wednesday evening the Athletics Union Exec organise a social for anyone who takes part in competitive or recreational sport, their social calendar includes Party in the Park, Easter Foreign Tour, Mr LSE, AU Ball, Halloween Party, PRIDE Week, Fight Night and a fancy dress extravaganza before Christmas called ‘Carol’!
