Academic Rights
As a student at LSE, you can expect a certain level of academic quality. This applies to the standards of tutors, lecturers and class teachers amongst other things. The University's guidelines are published in the undergraduate and graduate handbooks and are also available on the web at www.lse.ac.uk/resources/schoolRegulations
. If for example, you feel that your tutor is not fulfilling their obligations as set out in the regulations, it is important that you speak to the department involved in order to sort the problem out. If there is no progress, then it is possible to make an official complaint. This process applies to many other problems. The key thing to note before you make a formal complaint to the school, is that the regulations demand that you have followed all informal avenues prior to going down this route - i.e. raised it with your tutor, departmental tutor and then even the Deans.
You can also raise an issue with your programme representative. These students sit on the Student Staff Liaison Committee and may be able to push change through in your department. Remember if you have a personal greivance with a member of staff, it is not appropriate to raise it with the programme representative.
If you have any complaints or problems, please contact the Education and Welfare Officer, Ruhana Ali, at su.edwelfare@lse.ac.uk
who will advise you on the appropriate course of action.
