Congratulations! You have decided to be become a Programme representative for your Staff Student Liaison Committee ( SSLC).  The job is of course hard work at times, but in the end it is an extremely rewarding and valuable process.

What is a Programme Representative?

Every academic department has a number of students who represent the voice of its undergraduate, masters and researchquestionmark degree students.  Their job is to communicate students concerns to departmental staff,  thus effecting change.  They sit on termly Student Staff Liaison Committees in addition to the Programme Rep Council, a meeting organised by the Students; Union which meets twice a term.  Via these two important meetings, programme reps can raise any important issues the students in their department have concerns about.

Why become a Programme representative?

-          Make real changes and improvements in the lives of the students in your department and beyond
-          Contribute to your personal development plan and thereby enhance your CV.
-          Gain key transferable skills such as the ability to negotiate.

How do I become a Programme Representative?

-          Programme Reps are elected by members of their department and in their year at a meeting in the first couple of weeks of term.  Your department should inform you of the time and location.
-          All departments differ in their specific arrangements in that some have a separate graduate and undergraduate SSLC.
-          You will be elected for one academic year, but you may be re-elected.

What is a Student-Staff Liaison Committee?

Student-Staff Liaison Committees play a vital role in allowing staff and students to discuss issues related to their department.  As a Student's Union we support and encourage the principle and the work of SSLC as they:

-          Form the basis for the representation of students views and concerns that are then taken up at higher committee levels.
-          Provide a forum in which students can ensure they receive the highest quality course the university can deliver.questionmark

-          Provide a link between students and LSE.

-          Allow department wide problems to be identified easily.
