Students with Disabilities (SWD)

For disabled/dyslexic students this is one of the more progressive universities to be at, so you're off to a good start. It's up to you whether you choose to disclose your disability to the School, but I would definitely recommend that you do. This will enable you to access all the help that is on offer, and start university life with your teachers, and personal tutor, knowing exactly where they stand.
Staff to help you
In addition, Jean Jameson, the Advisor to Students with Disabilities, and Sue Haines of the Disability Office, are full-time members of staff committed to providing support to LSE students with disabilities.
To make an appointment to see Jean concerning any issue from disclosure to exam arrangements, you can contact her at j.m.jameson@lse.ac.uk

Students With Disabilities Officer
Each year the student body elects a Students with Disabilities (SWD) Officer to be responsible for ensuring the ensuring the equal opportunities, welfare and representation of students with disabilities (SWD). Their job is also concerned with the safety of SWD students on and off campus and assist victims of discrimination in any way that the Officer is able, where requested.
Over the year, the SWD Officer makes sure that any changes made at the School are disability- and dyslexic-friendly
In addition, SWD Officer convenes and Chairs the Union's SWD forum, an open forum to discuss SWD issues, holds regular surgeries to deal with enquiries from SWD students and oversees the Unions Disability Awareness Week.
This year's SWD Officer is Lizzie Fison.
If you have any questions, comments or complaints, please contact the SWD Officer at Su.Disability@lse.ac.uk

Students With Disabilities Handbook
Each year, the Students' Union produces a Students With Disabilities Handbook to help students settle in at LSE.
The guide is edited and produced by the SU Communications Officer, but the text is all written by people who have expertise on the issues. These include the SWD Officer, the LSE Disability and Dyslexia Office, the National Union of Students and University of London Union and other outside bodies.
Inside the guide, you will find sections on School policy on disability, the SWD society and Circles Network, help in Library, accessibility on Campus and transport around London.
There is also a basic introduction to the Students' Union and a real-life account from four LSE students.
Copies of the guide are available free from Students' Union Reception on the ground floor of the East Building.
Make sure you pick up your copy!
SWD Newsletter
We also produce a regular Newsletter for Students With Disabilities at LSE.
