General Course Students at LSE

General Course Students are students who spend one year at LSE as part of their course from another University overseas. The vast majority of General Course students come from the United States and there are around 300 General Course students at LSE. In fact, former US President John F. Kennedy was a General Course student at LSE.

Though only members for one year, the Students' Union is committed to representing and serving General Course students as much as any other and at the beginning of each academic year, General Course students elect a student to represent them on the Students' Union Executive Committee (which decides policy for the Union).

The election takes place in week four of the Michaelmas term, with the winning candidate expected to attend executive meetings and the Union General Meeting (UGM) each Thursday at 1pm in the Old Theatre (where they make reports about what they have done and can be asked questions by students). They are also expected to hold sergeries and forums for General Course students and where necessary, represent General Course students to the LSE on committees or by leading campaigns.
