Safety and travel

cab
London is normally a safe place to be, but it pays to be aware of the potential dangers.

999 - the number to dial in an emergency in the UK.

Here are a few tip to staying safe:

  1. Try not to travel alone, but if this unavodiable make sure you stay close to people, or let someone know you have left or are on your way home.
  2. Always carry some cash with you, and carry an AZ if you are not familiar with London.
  3. Nightbuses run all over London. Most now have CCTV so are safe. If you feel uncomfortable, sit near the driver, and let them know you are travelling alone.
  4. Never get into unlicensed mini-cabs. Black cabs are the best.
  5. Pick up your free panic alarm from the SU Reception, Advice and Counselling Centre, the Education and Welfare Officer or in halls.

    Leaving safely from the union....

  • Every Friday night during and after Crush, the Student's Union provides a free night bus to the LSE Halls of Residences. It leaves at 12pm, 1am and 2am. Priority is given to women travelling alone, and those that live in the halls that are the greatest distance from the Union.
  • There is a free phone in the the lobby ( between the Tuns and the quad), from where you can ring through to a licensed taxi firm.
  • There are many night buses that leave regularly from Aldwych. You can get your free night bus map from the Education and Welfare Officer, or if you live in halls from your hall committee.
