Immigration Problems

This can be a complex area of law. Before you start spending your money on one of the many immigration advisory agencies around London, we strongly advise the following action:

  • Speak to a welfare adviser in the SU Advice Centre This is FREE and it may well be that the problem can be dealt with without having to use an outside agency.
  • Call UKCOSA on*0207 107 9922*. They are an independent and free service that deals with overseas student issues, including immigration matters.
  • If you think your case needs a solicitor, call the Immigration Law Practitioners' Association on 020 7251 8383. They cannot give advice but will give you details of an experienced and reputable immigration lawyer in your area.
  • Non-profit making organisations such as JCWI (020 7251 8706), Refugee Legal Group/Asylum Aid (020 7377 5123) Refugee Legal Centre (020 7780 3220) and the Immigration Advisory Service (020 7967 1200) can provide free and reliable immigration advice and representation.
It is best not to contact the Home Office for advice without first speaking to an adviser in the Advice Centre or to one of the above organisations.*
