What are we doing?
The aim of FutureProof is to unite all campaigns, projects and initiatives that involve a degree of sustainability under one brand that brings all related issues into the mainstream consciousness of the LSE community.
FutureProof is an initiative by the LSE Students’ Union that will bring together sustainability-related issues and campaigns under one roof. FutureProof regards “sustainability” in a very broad sense, meaning that it will house projects that will help sustain not only our planet, but our society and ourselves too. This means that alongside traditional “green” issues, FutureProof will also be a banner for societal and health initiatives from the LSE Students’ Union.
Why are we doing this?
It is clear that making an impact on environmental sustainability means making an impact on lifestyles. Whilst, environmental issues are increasingly on the agenda, they are often still perceived as issues that only “green” people will be interested in. The truth is that the issues are at such a basic existential level that every person should consider them.
FutureProof as a brand will make in-roads into mainstream consciousness by communicating through a narrative that feels mainstream, and not a fringe interest. The message is that through positive actions we can safeguard our planet and our bodies against premature decline. Simultaneously, linking the planet and personal levels of sustainability through a common brand expounds the notion that these levels are inexorably linked and mutually reinforcing.
How are we doing this?
FutureProof will work to unite all related upcoming LSE Students’ Union campaigns and initiatives. The brand may also be used for joint initiatives with the School or other stakeholders in the LSE community.
The brand can work as a supplementary label alongside other branding and messaging, such as placing a “FutureProof: yourself” sticker on healthy food options or “FutureProof: the planet” on recycling bins. Similarly, it can be used as a campaign and initiative “sponsor”.
Upcoming LSE Students’ Union initiatives that fall under the FutureProof banner include:
* Healthy living drive
* Our involvement in the road to Copenhagen
* Cycling in London and at LSE
* Sound Impact Awards
* Roof garden projects
* Ensuring a sustainable new students’ building
* Ethical investment campaign
What have we achieved?
During Orientation Festival over 550 people either signed a pledge or pledged to get involved with a strand of our FutureProof work! A great start to what will hopefully be the start of something beautiful! Now, we must all stick to those pledges and turn these into action – keep an eye open for further FutureProof events on campus.
