Relatively new and open to new ideas, this society of over 320 has won several awards – Best Overall Society (2006), Best Charitable Event ( 2007), three Individual Contribution awards (2007).
We hold discussion groups, talks, films, development-careers fair and fundraise for charities - we raised £6000 for WaterAid 2007 Development Week.
Past events have included Charity Boat Party with Finance Society, Talk on Corporate Social Responsibility with Business Society and Film premier of Zalzala: The Pakistan Earthquake.
During the annual Development Week (lent term) we had talks on Trade Unions and Empowerment, Microfinance and International Aid.
This year we have introduced new initiatives such as Free Spanish and Portuguese classes, mentoring scheme (matching an undergraduate student with a post graduate mentor), film and book clubs, networking sessions and we hope to organise a 2 week trip to
