COMMITTEE

President: Andre Heine

Profile:

Hi! My name is André Hein and I am the chair of the European Society for this year. I am studying in a General Course at the Department of International Relations where I focus primarily on the European Union. Coming from Germany, I am very happy to find myself in an international environment of committed students who want to contribute to the process of European Integration. Nowadays, our daily life is already more affected by the European Union than it is perceived. However, I strongly believe that the EU has to be established much further if it wants to be prepared for the challenges of a globalized world. Through a number of interesting public lectures from EU-practitioners and scientists the board aims at improving the understanding about Europe. As well, I am convinced that by organizing social events such as trips, movie nights and parties we can do a lot to bring „Europeans“ from all around the world together.

So, I am looking forward to an interesting and stimulating „European Year“ at LSE!

Vice-President: Emily Vigliar

Profile:

I’m half Italian, half Swedish, but have lived in England long enough to qualify as one of the few ‘English ones’ on my masters in Politics and Government in the EU here at the LSE.  My background and my undergraduate degree in French and German have led me to embrace all things European. In my view one of the best things about the school is the great mix of cultures and in the European Society we celebrate the diversity of our nationalities and all the fun that comes out of that! I hope you enjoy the variety of cultural and social events we have in store for you this year.

Secretary: Sebastian Hufnagel

Profile:

My name is Sebastian Hufnagel and I support the European Society as secretary, administering our members, writing minutes at meetings and helping out where else I can.

After finishing a BA in political and administrative science in Konstanz, Germany, in 2007, I am now doing the MSc in Politics and Government in the EU at LSE.

I am very excited about being an active part of this year’s society board, since it is a great way of getting to know interesting people from all over Europe and beyond and experiencing the rich student life at LSE apart from the coursework. For the coming academic year, I am looking forward to inspiring guest speakers, enjoyable cultural events, an amazing trip to a Central/Eastern European capital and of course fun parties!
