MUHAMMAD: THE GREATEST LEADER
Orphan; Tradesman; Statesman; Soldier; Prophet.
George Bernard Shaw, one of the founders of LSE, said that '"If a man like Muhammad were to assume the leadership of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it much needed peace and happiness".
We invite Professor Tariq Ramadan, author of ‘The Messenger: The Meanings of the Life of Muhammad’ to explore this statement. Why is Muhammad still considered one of histories greatest leaders? What lessons can modern leaders, both Muslim and non-Muslim, learn from Muhammad’s example?
About the Book
"The Messenger" addresses the significance of the Prophet for some of today's most controversial issues, such as the treatment of the poor, the role of women, Islamic criminal punishments, war, racism, and relations with other religions. Selecting those facts and stories from which we can draw a profound and vivid spiritual picture, Ramadan asks how can the Prophet's life remain - or become again - an example, a model, and an inspiration. Capturing a life that was often eventful, gripping, and highly charged, Ramadan provides both an intimate portrait of a man who was shy, kind, but determined, as well as a dramatic chronicle of a leader who launched a great religion and inspired a vast empire. Underscoring the historical importance and meaning of Muhammad.
Copies of the book will be available for sale

About Fasting
Fasting is the 4th of Islam's 5 pillars, and is compulsory on almost every Muslim. The fast lasts from sunrise to sunset and is not only a fast of the stomach, but a fast of the soul; we are not only required to abstain from food and drink, but also from backbiting, swearing, lying, cheating and bad deeds. Ultimately it teaches us patience and humility- we learn to empathise with those less well off, appreciate what we have been given, and devote what energy we have to spiritual reflection!

CHALLENGED YET UNRIVALLED:THE QURAN
"There is probably in the world no other book which has remained twelve centuries with so pure a text". Writing 200 years ago, Sir William Muir, Orientalist.
Often referred to as the 'guidance for humanity', the Quran is one of the greatest miracles of Islam. The unique literary style, neither poetry nor prose, is unsurpassed, it's eloquence astounding. One of the few religious texts to remain entirely in its original form, and one of the few texts to be memorized word for word in its entirety by millions around the globe, the science and wisdom of the Qur'an is often ignored in favor of misquoted references.
Beautiful Quranic recitation will open this final event as Ajmal Masroor ends the week with a talk on the final revelation and the importance it has in the Islamic faith.
'Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would certainly have seen it falling down, splitting asunder because of the fear of Allah, and We set forth these parables to men that they may reflect.'
