UNITED NATIONS SOCIETY

UNheader

Dag Hammarskjöld once said that "everything will be alright. You know when? When people, just people, stop seeing the UN as a weird Picasso abstraction and start seeing it as a drawing they made themselves".

This, modestly enough, is our main goal at the UNSOC—to become a forum for discussion about the UN and international organisations. Progress will only ever come through critical education. We want to find out what is good, what is bad, and how to improve it. That is why the most important thing for us to do is to engage with our membership.

We host and organise an extensive range of events including public lectures, workshops, careers events, participation in Model UN simulations and much more. Our members will recieve a weekly bulletin, reporting on the work of the UNSOC, and our plans for the future. All of our members are strongly encouraged to approach us and join our UN family - whether it is through participating in MUNs, coming to our lectures, or even helping us organise events! So if you are keen to join, let us know! If you don’t know whether or not to join, have a look at the following reasons and find out even more on our website www.lsesu-unsociety.uk.tc :

Firstly, you get a chance to attend a busy series of events in and around LSE, with lectures, debates, question times, with interesting and influential people - UN officials, diplomats, NGOs, jounalists... anybody with a say in international organisations and diplomacy in general.

Secondly, you can participate in and help organise a wide array of Model UN conferences throughout the world. This year alone, we are sending delegations to some 15 MUNs, from the United States to Switzerland to Pakistan. We are also involved in the organisation of two MUNs in London -London International MUN and Mulberry Global Classrooms MUN.

Thirdly, you are also exposed to the work ofthe United Nations Association of the UK, which we represent at LSE. Nationwide campaigns to lobby the British governement to work more closely with the UN, human rights demonstrations and pacifist issues are all on the agenda this year. Furthermore, the UNA also provides us with a link with other UN Societies throughout the world, with which we hold networking events.UN3

Therefore, the LSESU UN Society has something for everybody -events, conferences, campaigns and networking. Join us and we promise a very diverse agenda!
