Hi, Helen Roberts here. I am the elected Student Union (SU) Residences Officer. These pages have details of the LSE halls of residence from the student perspective!
The official LSE website, which contains specific details about hall prices and locations etc is:
www.lse.ac.uk/accommodation
The LSE's range of Residential accommodation is expanding quickly over the next few years. This year more LSE students moved into the Intercollegiate halls: Canterbury, Commonwealth and Hughes Parry. Grosvenor House, near Covent Garden opened two years ago and has proved very popular. LSE is now looking into getting new accommodation for students as well as looking to redevelop some of the current halls.
25% of LSE first year undergrads go to live in intercollegiate halls. I will work to set up a residences forum within ULU so that your views will be more represented. However, I am still your residences officer. Any problems, then please contact me.
In addition to this, it is also my job to answer questions of those looking for private accommodation. I also point students in the direction of private accommodation, and help to clarify a few important points when looking for, and living in rented flats.
It is also my role to help explain the application process, and strive for better value for money and increased services offered by residences, working with hall staff and student committees to make LSE halls even better!
Moving in this year...
If you are moving into halls this year, you can find information on your hall and its Social committee at the LSE website.
People in halls to help you...
Each LSE hall has its own Constitution and elected Hall Committee to represent you. The halls elect their committees themselves, and those elected are there to host fun events and cater for needs using the Common Room fees paid each term. If things go wrong, they should be your first port of call, so look out for their details around your hall, and introduce yourself when you arrive! In addition to these, the Students' Union has representatives (myself for one!) on school committees to deal with residences, administration and suchlike.
You can addresss any complaints or suggestions to the SU Residences Officer, or to the Education and Welfare Officer.
On belhaf of the students in University of London intercollegiate accommodation, I also represent LSE Students and can point you in the direction of the people who can directly answer your queries.
