Union Notes

The LSE charges candidates for postgraduate programmes £30 to submit an online application and £60 to submit a standard paper application.

Most other colleges of the University of London, such as Kings, UCL, Queen Mary, SOAS Imperial College and Goldsmiths, charge no fees for the same service.

The cost of studying a masters course at the LSE for those classified as home students ranges from £8,130 to £15,426 per year and for those classified as overseas students from £11,958 to £15,426 per year.

To study a PhD for a home student costs £3,085 and an international student £10,716 per year.

Union Believes

That students may be deterred from applying to the LSE by the upfront fee of at least £30 for the privilege.

Entry to the LSE should be based on ability to learn, not the ability to pay.

LSE postgraduate students pay extortionate amounts of money in fees, which should be enough to cover the costs of processing postgraduate application forms.

Union Resolves

To mandate the General Secretary to liase with the school to investigate to possibility of eliminating application fees for postgraduate students.
