RESPONSIBILITIES :
The International Students Officer (ISO) is responsible for ensuring the welfare and representation of international students.
The ISO, who must be an overseas, or non-UK EU student, also convenes and chairs the Union's International Students Forum, which is an open forum to discuss issues facing International students at the LSE.
The ISO will also liase with the various cultural and national societies to ensure that they are represented as well and to encourage the participation of International Students in the Union's events.
The ISO will hold regular office hours, during term time to deal with any inquiries and/or problems from International students as well as to coordinate with the national and cultural societies.
MY PRIORITIES FOR THE YEAR :
- To Increase the participation of International students in the Union's activities and events, both through directly getting involved in the Union as well as through societies.
- To encourage national and cultural societies to have more joint-society events so as to promote more understanding of the various cultures present in the LSE.
- To coordinate all the various events that take place from National and Cultural societies so that there are fewer clashes and better cooperation.
- To lobby the school for more Language support for Students for whom English is not their first language.
- Find better options and deals for all students, but with a special focus on International students, on services like Bank accounts and Mobile Phone Contracts.
- Improve the induction system so that new students can settle in quicker and easier.
HOW I CAN HELP YOU :
- Offer advice on how to get involved, either in societies or the Union.
- Offer advice on students' problems and queries.
- Provide information on London, LSE or the surrounding areas of the Halls of Residence.
- Help National & Cultural societies to host joint cultural events.
- Raise concerns of an international nature at the Executive meetings.

However, every week of term(Lent and Michealmas), i will also be having an Office Hour in the Quad, where anyone can come and have a chat. The timing of these hours will be announced at the start of Michealmas Term, 2007, once i've received my timetable. I will also be in the Old Theatre at 1pm every Thursday, for the Union General Meeting(UGM). Finally, you can also leave a note for me at SU reception, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
