LSE Students’ Union Teaching Excellence Awards 2007/8

LSE wishes to raise the profile of teaching across the School, and to acknowledge the effort and enthusiasm invested in teaching and the support of learning by academic staff. To this end the School in conjunction with the Students’ Union has instituted the LSE Teaching Excellence Awards. There will be up to five awards of £2000 each. The initial selection of teachers will be undertaken by student nomination, coordinated through the Students’ Union. The final selection will be undertaken by the Pro Director responsible for Teaching, Learning and Student Affairs.

This is your opportunity to acknowledge professors, lecturers, tutors, class teachers, seminar leaders, workshop organisers – any member of LSE staff involved in teaching who has inspired you, helped you get to grips with complex or challenging ideas, encouraged your learning, changed your view on the world or helped you to “understand the cause of things" 1 better.

Eligibility: We do not wish to limit or define who is eligible for nomination, other than that the person should be employed by the LSE as a teacher/lecturer. Nominees can be in part-time or full-time employment in the School, and should have taught a minimum of twenty hours in the academic year 2007/8.

Nominations: People making the nominations must be registered LSE students, and must have studied with the teacher they wish to nominate. If you wish to make a nomination, see the below for the nomination pack . If you opt to be a “lead nominator”, you will need to find six other fellow students to support the nomination, each of whom must write an individual reference for the nominee.

Closing date: Completed nomination packs must be submitted to the Students’ Union Reception (East Building E65) by 5pm on Friday 14th March 2008. No further nominations will be accepted after this date.

Awards presentations: LSE Teaching Excellence prize winners will receive their awards at a forthcoming celebration, and will be publicised in News and Views.
