Fairtrade Fortnight

LSE and LSE SU celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight

Since 2004, LSE has been recognised as a Fairtrade College. As a Fairtrade College, both the LSE and LSE SU have introduced a number of Fairtrade product ranges that allow you, as a consumer, to choose products that will help disadvantaged farmers, workers and their families in the developing world.

This year the LSE and LSE SU will be joining forces again to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight from 25th February to 9th March. There are a number of activities organised that will showcase Fairtrade products and illustrate how the Fairtrade Foundation has improved the lives of millions of people in developing countries including:

Promotional deals on Fairtrade products will be offered throughout the fortnight in the Students’ Union’s Shop and in both the School’s and Students’ Union’s catering outlets

·         Monday 3rd to Thursday 6th March, 11am - 3pm, Houghton Street/The Quad
·         All are welcome to come along and trade your clothes in, celebrating ethical fashion in style. You can create a new wardrobe by either bringing an item to swap or give a £1 min donation to show your support for fairly traded, ethically produced clothes. Recycling has never been so fashionable!
·         If you'd like to arrange to bring any clothes in advance, email su.soc.peopleandplanet@lse.ac.uk

·         Tuesday 4th March, 7pm in the Quad, with Fairtrade refreshments.
·         Join People & Planet for a viewing of the critically acclaimed film 'Black Gold', which explores some of the bitter injustices of the global coffee industry. Journeying from Ethiopia to the coffee shops of Seattle, via World Trade Organisation talks and the New York Coffee Exchange, the film traces one man's fight for a fair price.
·         However, this will be a film showing with a difference as the film will be projected solely by pedalling! Bring your bicycle along to hook it up to the generator and maybe even help to produce the bike power.
