The London School of Economics Student's Union is hosting its first ever non-alcoholic freshers party on Sunday 7th October from 7pm - 11pm in the Quad, (Houghton Street, on the Aldwych).

 

Unwind is a freshers event that the sabb team here are organising. The London Student wrote an article about our upcoming event in their latest edition.

This will be the first ever alcohol-free freshers party that the SU has organised. We have asked many other Students Unions in London and around the UK, and as far as we are aware, we are the first students union to organise such a freshers party. It will be held on Sunday 7th October from 7pm - 11pm in the Quad. The price is £3 and this includes a free (smoothie) drink.

 

 

 We decided to host such an event to make our union, and the freshers experience in general, more inclusive since we have such a diverse student body at the LSE. We believe that, as a student union, we should strive to make our events as diverse as possible to maximise and ensure that as many students as possible are offered a social setting in which they can meet others. We are aware that there are a large number of students who may not feel comfortable in an environment where alcohol is served and can become largely excluded from Freshers events in the evening. This event is aimed at all students; a relaxing chilled out atmosphere for all; for those who want to be pampered or just want a night off from the booze.

 

We are planning on having a pro evo tournament on the projector screen, the body shop is coming down so we can get pampered, there will also be smoothies and a chocolate fountain. We hope that this event will be a success, and thus will become a permanent fixture on the freshers week calendar. So it would be most appreciated if you could include something about Unwind in the next newsletter to promote the event. We’d love it if other unis were able to promote it to their students so all the students in London get the opportunity to go to a non-alcoholic freshers party this year.
