Introduction

The Social Policy Society is a new and lively hub for all things social policy. Our society is open and inclusive to all students regardless of department and field of study. In an increasingly international world, Social Policy is needed now more than ever for responding to global issues, structuring welfare systems, and understanding needs.

The SPS's four core elements:

Networking.
The aim is to create streams that allow professors, alumni, PhD students, masters students and undergraduate students to learn from one another and connect on a regular basis. This stream includes receptions and events that will bring the community together and facilitate an online comunity.

Events.
We set up events that allow prominent organisations and individuals in the field of Social Policy to share what they are doing professionally, which enables us to learn and realise how we can get involved. We also set up Social Policy socials around London. Gathering members for meals, drinks, boats, pubs and clubs to build a greater sense of community for all members.

Learning.
Social policy, and especially research in social policy, can get quite tedious when we read about it all day long. This SPS aims to have an educational aspect to broaden people's paradigms within the field of social and public policy. Moreover, this element aims to expand our understanding of policy beyond the UK, delving into international policy schemes that may suggest more creative and functional policy solutions in other parts of the world.

Charity.
The charity aspect of the society is of utmost importance. Social policy strives for the betterment of well-being, and this society aims to take part in doing that in a direct way. We look to collaborate with the volunteer centre and other societies to get involved in charity work around London and beyond. Our charity work is centred around effective and sustainable policies within voluntary organisations. We want to use our knowledge of how best to construct policy to help these organisations maximise their social impact. This involves both hands-on work and consultation with organisers.

The SPS needs members with a multitude of passions and abilities. If any of these core elements seems of interest, or if you'd like to just learn more about the field of social policy, this is the society for you.

Positions and profiles will be updated shortly.
