The Grimshaw Club is the go-to on campus for all things international affairs. Since 1923 and as the school's oldest society, we've run events of a high caliber with diplomats, civil society and academics at the LSE and beyond it. Our events range from small group roundtables with guests to larger speaker and panel events, social events, and our ever-popular Student Delegations abroad.
The Grimshaw's staple. Whether over coffee, lunch, tea or drinks, (on the house) the Club welcomes an internal or external guest for an informal chat with our members. Past guests have included LSE faculty from a variety of departments, civil society organisations as diverse as Assemblea Nacional Catalana and the fourth estate with Politico and the Economist, as well as ex-NATO members and more.
More formally, the Grimshaw organises and collaborates on a variety of moderated speaker events and panels over the course of the year. In the previous 2017/2018 academic year, we were delighted to collaborate with the Students for a Free Tibet society on the question of 'Modern Chinese Imperialism.' We look forward to doing even more this year.
The Grimshaw hosts events with embassies across London. From the Ambassadors and High Commisioners for states as diverse as the Afghanistan, Cuba Israel and the United States (to name but a few), through to representatives of non/quasi-state actors like the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq, we are always looking for topical and forthcoming guests interested in candid dialogue with our members.
Social events have always been a big part of what we do, whether within the Grimshaw, with other LSE societies, or even further abroad with our 'friends' elsewhere in London. Likewise, we break up campus events with visits to various parliamentary events and committees, museum trips, and the likes.
Finally, the Grimshaw Club is one of the few societies to organise and sponsor subsidised student trips abroad. Last year, our five student delegations went to Barcelona, Brussels, Havana, Tbilisi and Kiev. Other destinations have included Colombia, Estonia, Hungary, Israel, Morroco, Myanmar, North Korea, Pakistan and Switzerland.
