My name is Martha and I am your Education Officer. Black History Month is a very important date in the Students’ Union calendar. At the Union, we use it as an opportunity to celebrate the work of Afro-Caribbean people in society, and most importantly to acknowledge the contributions made by black staff and students at LSE . The SU has organised 6 events that will unite the LSE community in a month of dialogue and jubilation. In addition, I am happy to present events organised and hosted by The Embrace Network , EDI and the US Centre. All students and staff are encouraged to attend these events. I want to recognise the efforts of Momen Sethi (BME Officer) and several LSESU societies; Afro-Caribbean Society, British People of Colour Society, Islamic Society and the Nigerian Society.
As we enjoy this month of festivities, it is important to remember that for black people across the globe the struggle continues, but victory is certain. In the words of Samora Machel 'Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta'.
See you at the events!
Happy Black History Month!
