Black History Month

A celebration of black heritage, culture and history - the past, the present and the future!

This year LSESU will put a particular focus on Black History within the UK.

This month’s events will celebrate the black historians of the past whilst discussing current situations which affect black individuals in today’s society. This will include topical discussions such as Black Lives Matter and Afro-Hair.

General Secretary Busayo Twins, Community and Welfare Officer Riham Mansour, Anti-racism officer Sarah Foss, and the African Caribbean society will - through videos, discussions and film screenings - celebrate the contributions of the African and Caribbean culture throughout the month of October.

For this month's celebration of Black History, LSESU spoke to grime artists, spoken word poets and black alumni. Together we discussed the issues, concerns, and misconceptions facing the black community in the present day.
