6th Floor

6th Floor

The 6th Floor includes the LSESU Weston Café and roof terrace featuring views across London, the Bao Yang SU Meeting Room and the LSESU Activities Studio.

Capacities:

150 (whole floor, including The Weston Café, roof terrace, Bao Yang SU Meeting Room and
Activities Studio)

The whole of the 6th Floor can be booked for evening events on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays (depending on availability). Other individual spaces on the 6th Floor can be booked individually and at other times – however, please note that bookings aren't available between 1–5pm while the Weston Café is open and because the Activities Studio has regular gym classes during this time. The LSESU Weston Café and the Activities Studio both have their own speaker systems so you can plug in a device (not provided by LSESU) and play.

Capacity: 70

Booking availability: Monday–Friday, 6–10pm

The LSESU Weston Café (6th Floor) is open as a café service from 10am–5pm. Event bookings for this area are available once the café service has closed. When the café closes at 5pm, the café staff close, clean and clear the café area – therefore, event bookings begin at the earliest time of 6pm.

The Weston Café has its own furniture (tables and chairs). This cannot be removed from the café, although it can be moved around or re-arranged by the event organiser. If you move the furniture, please ensure that you put the furniture back to how it was when your event booking began. If furniture needs to be removed from the area, it can be moved into the area of the Bao Yang Meeting Room and the partition wall can be closed to hide the furniture. The Bao Yang Meeting Room can also be used as a cloakroom for your event.

You have the option of opening the bar in the LSESU Weston Cafe´ for evening events – please note that a limited alcohol stock is available at the 6th Floor bar, and you may need to request more alcohol is delivered if it runs out. The café has its own speakers – however, access to these speakers is located behind the bar. You can play music over the speakers if the bar is open and your device will be safe behind the bar or, alternatively, if you have chosen not to have the bar open but would like music, please give the LSESU Events Team notice of this requirement – they can run a lead under the café shutters, but please be aware that your device is less secure here as it is not behind the bar.

Capacity:

  • 70 seated (lecture style)
  • 25 seated (boardroom style)
  • 80 standing

Booking availability: Monday–Friday, 9am–12pm, Wednesday/Friday evenings, 5pm–10pm, Thursday evenings, 6:30–10pm

The Activities Studio as standard will have no furniture in it, so if your event / room booking requires furniture please ensure that you request this.

The studio has a projector, screen and speakers, as well as mirrors, white boards and poster boards / privacy screens. Access to the projector is via a box on the wall next to the fire escape – cables for linking your laptop to this wall can be signed out from Reception on the Ground Floor (ask to sign out the AV box) and must be returned immediately after your room booking has finished.

The 6th Floor Activities Studio is booked out during afternoons for exercise classes, and is unavailable for event bookings from Monday–Friday, between 12pm–5pm daily.

Exercise classes also run on a Monday and Tuesday evening meaning that the space is available for event / room bookings on Wednesday–Friday evenings only. Because the room is shared with exercise classes, furniture will often be left stacked at the side of the room to ensure the exercise classes can begin straight away at the start of their room booking. Please be respectful of this, and ensure that all furniture is left neatly stacked against the walls before the end of your own event / room booking. If the room is left with furniture left out which affects the exercise classes running on time, then the room booking holder may lose their room booking rights.

Capacity: 12 (seated)

Booking availability:

Meetings / Events: Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm

Events: Monday–Friday, 6–10pm

A table and 12 chairs are kept in the Bao Yang Meeting Room.

The Bao Yang Meeting Room is within the café area on the 6th Floor of the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre, behind the white partition wall (which can be opened or closed). Please note: this meeting room is not sound proof due to the partition wall, and therefore any meetings in this space will have noise travelling into the area from the café – and noise will also travel in the other direction.

This space can be booked out at any time during the day for meetings. However, as events often run in the evenings meetings cannot take place in this area after 5pm in normal circumstances.

When this space is used in conjunction with the café for events, it can be used as a storage space (for unwanted furniture) or as a cloakroom (coat rails can be organised when booking your event).

The room is available for students to use between 9am-5pm, when there are no existing bookings (a schedule of the week’s bookings can be found on the door of the Meeting Room).
