Gym FAQs

We recognise that our members will have lots of questions related to the LSESU Gym so, below you can find a list of FAQs that will hopefully answer them.

General Questions

Who can join the LSESU gym?

The LSESU Gym is open to LSE Students, Staff and Alumni. Unfortunately, the LSESU Gym is not open to the public for use.

What do I do when my booking is over?

When your booking slot finishes, please leave the gym/ studio as quickly as possible. Follow the social distancing signs. Keep to the one-way system and try to stay at least 2 metres from others as much as possible.

What are the gym’s opening hours?

Mon-Fri 7am-7pm and Sat-Sun 10am-6pm

How long can I stay in the gym for?

Booking slots are 1 hour per session.

Do I need to wear a mask in the Gym?



You must wear a mask when walking around the Saw Swee Hock Building before entering the gym and whilst walking around the Gym. You are not required to wear a mask when at a gym equipment station, as all equipment is socially distanced. However, you can do so if you would feel more comfortable.

How do I get the most up to date information?

On the LSESU website or via our @LsesuGym Instagram.



What social distancing measures have been put in place?

Social distancing signage, including floor markers indicating where to stand, posters indicating the capacity in each area of the gym, barriers for queuing, signs for exiting, and, where possible, directional signs and floor signs indicating one-way systems.

How will the equipment reflect social distancing?

Some equipment on the gym floor may be unavailable to allow for social distancing to allow 2 metres distance from the next piece of equipment. In the free weight and free training areas, all equipment will be placed 2 metres away from the next and we will create clear training zones on the floor.

Will there be a cap on numbers in the Gym?

Yes, there will be a maximum capacity of 20 members.

What do I do if another member breaches the guidelines?

Please inform a member of staff immediately. We take breaches of the restrictions very seriously and will be addressing any members found to be in breach of the government restrictions and guidelines.



How will you keep the gym clean?

The gym will be cleaned by the LSESU Gym staff regularly throughout the day and after every session. The LSE Cleaning Team will be increasing their cleaning capacity daily too. We will also be asking members to wipe down their equipment with cleaning products provided after every use.

Will members be able to clean equipment?

Yes, we have installed plenty of cleaning stations throughout the gym which includes hand sanitiser, disinfectant spray, and blue roll to wipe down any area or equipment you use.

Is there adequate and safe ventilation in all gyms?

Yes, LSE Estates have been into the gym to inspect the ventilation system and have increased to its maximum.



Are changing facilities and showers available?

The changing rooms will be open but with a maximum capacity. However, we would recommend coming ready to workout.

Are lockers still in use?

There will be a limited number of lockers available, so please limit your personal belongings and only use a locker if absolutely necessary. Please bring a token/ £1 coin to use the lockers.

Will water fountains still be in use?

Yes, however you are only allowed to fill water bottles from fountains currently so please bring a bottle.
