Gym FAQs

We recognise that our members will have lots of questions related to returning to our LSESU Gym Community so below you can find a list of FAQs that will hopefully answer them. If you cannot find the answer below please email 

General Questions

The LSESU Gym is open to LSE Students, Staff and Alumni. Unfortunately, the LSESU Gym is not open to the public for use.

It is very simple:

  2. Create an account at
  3. Download the MyWellness App on your smartphone. Start booking!

Please note: You cannot use the LSESU gym unless you have booked a slot for your safety in line with current government COVID19 guidance and maximum capacity.

Please Note: Opening Hours have been adapted slightly (Mon-Fri 7am-7pm and Sat-Sun 10am-6pm).

Booking slots are 1 hour per session.

You are not required to wear a mask or gloves in the Gym, however, you can do so if you would feel more comfortable. You must wear a mask when walking around the Saw Swee Hock Building before entering the gym.

Please inform a member of staff immediately. We take breaches of the restrictions very seriously and will be addressing any members found to be in breach of the government restrictions and guidelines.

We are following guidance from UK Active, the Government, Sport England and Public Health England to make sure we keep you safe. We will ease restrictions when we have been advised that it is safe to do so, and keep you informed at every step.

Social Distancing

Social distancing signage, including floor markers indicating where to stand, posters indicating the capacity in each area of the gym, barriers for queuing, signs for exiting, and, where possible, directional signs and floor signs indicating one-way systems.

Some equipment on the gym floor may be unavailable to allow for social distancing to allow 2 metres distance from the next piece of equipment. In the free weight and free training areas, all equipment will be placed 2 metres away from the next and we will create clear training zones on the floor.

Yes, there will be a maximum capacity of 20 members.


Yes, the gym was deep cleaned and sanitised prior to reopening by the LSE Cleaning team.

The gym will be cleaned by the LSESU Gym staff regularly throughout the day and after every session. The LSE Cleaning Team will be increasing their cleaning capacity daily too. We will also be asking members to wipe down their equipment with cleaning products provided after every use.

Yes, we have installed plenty of cleaning stations throughout the gym which includes hand sanitiser, disinfectant spray, and blue roll to wipe down any area or equipment you use.

Yes, LSE Estates have been into the gym to inspect the ventilation system and have increased to its maximum.


The changing rooms will be open but only open for toilet facilities and lockers. Please ensure you arrive ready to workout. Showers will be out of use until restrictions are lifted.

Yes, please arrive ready to work as current restrictions do not allow us to use the changing rooms. Please bring minimal belongings with you, all you need is your membership card and phone to show your booking confirmation. .

PLEASE DO NOT BRING A TOWEL. You are not currently permitted to use sweat towels on the gym floor. We have increased our blue roll stations for you to use instead.

There will be a limited number of lockers available, so please limit your personal belongings and only use a locker if absolutely necessary.

Yes, however you are only allowed to fill water bottles from fountains currently so please bring a bottle.

The Denning Cafe on the 1st Floor is still closed. But we are looking at options to sell protein bars and shakes on the Gym Floor.

Active Lifestyle Classes

Step 3 (not before 17th May), adult Indoor group sports and exercise classes can resume. At the moment, we are unable to host indoor fitness classes.

Up to 7 days in advance.

Head to the 6th Floor Studio. Please wait outside until the studio until the Instructor is ready to register you. Please have your smartphone ready to show your booking confirmation.

The studio will be regularly cleaned by the LSE Cleaning Team. We will also be asking members to wipe down their equipment with cleaning products provided after every use..

No, unfortunately not. These facilities have a maximum capacity due to social distancing guidelines and cannot be used by Active Lifestyle members. Please come prepared for your class and head straight to the 6th Floor Studio. You may leave your belongings in the 6th Floor whilst you partake in the class and exit via our one way system.

Yes, via the MyWellness App, up to 7 days in advance.

We expect queues to be very unlikely but have put safety measures in place if you do need to wait for a little before getting in.

Try to arrive no more than 5 minutes early and follow the social distancing rules while you're waiting for the gym/ class.

When it's over, please leave the gym/ studio as quickly as possible. Follow the social distancing signs. Keep to the one-way system and try to stay at least 2 metres from others as much as possible.
