Join the creators of the Guardian's Black History Timeline, Gaverne Bennett and Joseph Harker, for a conversation on Black History beyond the slave trade and why this might be the most important Black History Month ever.
Gaverne Bennett is the creative director and author of The Guardian Black History Timeline that was first published in the newspaper in 2008, then updated and republished in 2020. He was also the creative director for other similar timeline projects for The Guardian and other organisations. He aims in his work to help us overcome our present problems by accessing the history that often underpins them."
Joseph Harker is the Deputy Opinion Editor and a columnist at the Guardian. He edited the Guardian's Black History wallchart series (2008 and 2020). He also wrote a chapter in Safe: Black Men Reclaiming Space (2019), and edited the book The Legacy of Apartheid (1994). Joseph also founded and edited the black newspaper Black Briton (1991-92).
