Information on the session & skill:
Developing you listening skills
Did you know you probably spend more time using your listening skills than any other kind of skill? Listening really is one of the most valuable professional skills you can have but many underestimate its importance and the positive impact listening can have on your interpersonal relations at work and in other areas of your life. But what does real listening actually mean and look like? Like other skills, listening takes practice and your listening skills can be improved.
In this seminar, run by Maddie Smith, LSE Careers and Ohemaa Nkansa-Dwamena, Counselling Psychologist, LSE Student Counselling Service, we will explain the difference between active and passive listening and give you some tools and steps to follow to improve your listening skills. We will also help you put your new found skills into practice through taking part in several practical activities.
By the end of the session you will have….
- Increased awareness of the benefits of active listening
- Developed an appreciation of how listening skills can be used to improve your interpersonal relations in different areas of your life.
- Practised a number of listening exercises to develop your ability to hear what others are really saying ( and how you might respond).
