11.30 – 12.00: John Davis, Director for the Financial Industry, South Pole

South Pole facilitate cooperation between partners in various domains of sustainability including carbon credits, renewable energy, supply chain and investment climate risks, green finance, and public advisory services with a focus on climate smart cities. 

 

John Davis is South Pole's Director for the Financial Industry based in London. He is responsible for serving the company’s financial clients with their broad offering of sustainability solutions. This includes tools that enable investors to understand the physical risks and opportunities that climate change poses, quantifying the impact of investments on the SDGs and assisting the financial sector in the transition to a low carbon economy. Prior to joining the South Pole Group, John accumulated a decade of profound experience in the energy commodity markets with Spectron, an energy brokerage, followed by CF Partners, an energy and environmental trading company where John helped to build and manage their trading desk.

12.00 – 12.30pm: Dr Rhian-Mari Thomas, Chair of the Green Banking Council at Barclays.

 

Rhian is Chair of the Barclays Green Banking Council and represents Barclays on the UK Government Green Finance Taskforce, the City of London’s Green Finance Initiative and the Banking Environment Initiative's Fintech Taskforce. Rhian began her 17-year banking career at Barclays Investment Bank, where she spent 10 years in Leveraged Finance and Financial Sponsors coverage.

Rhian subsequently held a succession of senior leadership roles at Barclays Corporate Bank, including as Head of Group Products and Global Product Chief Operating Officer responsible for business development, product governance and control and international product strategy. Latterly, Rhian was Head of Foreign Exchange and International Payments across Barclays Personal and Corporate Bank, a significant global business generating revenues of c£500m. Rhian joined Barclaycard in January 2016 as a Chief Commercial Officer for Barclaycard Business Solutions, responsible for commercial strategy, data analytics and governance.

 

Rhian is a fluent Welsh speaker and holds a PhD in Physics from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. Rhian is a passionate advocate of diversity and fairness and she was awarded the Barclays Woman of the Year Award 2014/15 in recognition of her efforts to support the inclusion agenda both within Barclays and the broader community. In both 2016 and 2017 Rhian was ranked in the Financial Times Outstanding Top 30 Global Executive LGBT Allies list.

1.30 – 2.00pm : Green Finance in conversation with Harry Gibson, Associate Director, Augusta

Augusta & Co is an independent London-based specialist financial advisory and investment house serving the European renewable energy sector.

They have successfully closed 80 transactions to an aggregate value in excess of €8 billion and for 16 years have been at the forefront of pioneering transactions in the sector.

 

Harry Gibson joined Augusta in May 2015, having spent the previous three years working at FTI Consulting in London. At FTI, Harry was an aide to FTI’s former chairman Lord Malloch Brown and also worked as an analyst in FTI’s Risk and Investigations Practice where he focused on business intelligence cases in Europe. Harry has also completed internships at The Economist and Vermillion Partners in Beijing.  Harry graduated from Oxford University in 2010 with a First Class degree in Economics and Management and also has an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.
