Happy International Women’s Day!

March 8th is International Women’s Day, which is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. We here at LSESU Advice Service want to provide you with some amazing events happening in your community that celebrate women and girls, non-binary and female-identifying people across the globe.

“Exploring Culture: Appropriation or Appreciation?”

Panel guests Mallika Basu, Thomasina Myers, and Melissa Thompson, together with moderator Sheila Dillon, will explore the ways in which the world of hospitality and cookery can be blind to cultural appropriation, and whether it is sometimes acceptable. “Sistah Space International Women's Day Wellness Event & Panel”

This event will have free wellness stations, women-owned brands (stalls), great music, food, and drink. The panel will feature important conversations around violence against women and girls. More information can be found here.

“What She Said W London: How to Keep Re-defining Yourself with Female Narratives”

This panel is a deep dive into a conversation exploring self-transformation with empowerment with mindset mentor Megan Rose Lane, UN women ambassador & body positivity advocate Jada Sezer, child therapist and yoga teacher Katie Burn and founder of Amalia Consulting Samira Ibrahim. Arab Women Artists Now (AWAN) Festival at Richmix

The Arts Canteen presents AWAN Festival – showcasing music, performance, spoken word, film and talks from Arab women artists from across the globe. More information can be found here.

Women’s Climate Strike

Women carry the weight of the climate crisis and the burden of waiting for the world to act, so The Women’s Climate Strike have organized a day of action which will take place on March 8th outside of Parliament Square. More information can be found here. Other similar events are planned in Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Uganda, Zambia, Cameroon and the Congo on the same day.

 

Not available on March 8th? No problem! There will be many events throughout the month of March including panels, film festivals, marches, and exhibitions. More information about events happening in London can be found here. Plus, at LSE, the Women's Officer is celebrating Women's Rights Week 2022, alongside the wider LSESU team, and our clubs and societies! This will take place from March 7th – March 11th, and a full list of events can be found here.

The LSESU Advice Team

The LSESU Advice Team is based on the 3rd floor of the Saw Swee Hock Building and we provide free, independent and confidential advice to all LSE students on academic and housing matters. We also administer the Hardship Fund, the Childcare Fund and the Graduation Gown Support Fund (GGSF).
