What is ABACUS?

The Association of British & Chinese University Students (ABACUS) is a student society led by a group of British-born Chinese who felt that there was a need to make Chinese language and cultural resources available to all. The society is officially recognised by Queen Mary, Goldsmiths, UCL, SOAS, Imperial College, Brunel and KCL, as well as many other ABACUS parties all over the UK.

We strive to broaden the horizons of students, build on their global awareness and interpersonal skills, and also create mutual appreciation among students for their differing backgrounds.

Events and Activities

Our range of internal and external socials and activities in collaboration with other societies and London universities include karaoke nights, hotpots, paint-balling, weekend trips, skating, bowling and many other cultural and outdoor activities alongside our famous London ABACUS clubbing events, such as our the biggest party night in the first month back in 2023 to celebrate Chinese New Year, and sellout flagship boat party on the river Thames.

Membership

As an astute economist would advise, ABACUS membership is a worthwhile investment and a necessity of the freshers' starter kit. A £5 membership will grant you access to all of our sellout events throughout the season at a discounted price. (*Note that the discount to all clubbing events is £5 or more)

Your membership fee contributes directly towards the running of the society, including the cost of venue booking, hiring staff, various administrative costs etc., and of course the provision of beverages. As a member, you'll get the opportunity to not only represent your ethnicity but you'll also meet loads of like-minded, dedicated and awesome individuals that will become your friends for life.

Contact Us

ABACUS is thrilled for the upcoming season and must we welcome you to our Whatsapp freshers group along with our Facebook and Instagram page where you can find exciting news about the society's plans.
