Who we are

Part business, part charity, part membership body – students’ unions are all seriously fun places to work. They are organisations in their own right. Professionally run, but different. Professional teams support elected student leaders to make change, improve lives and fulfil potential; we help make it happen.

Founded in 1897, LSE Students' Union is one of the oldest Students' Unions in the UK and is the representative and campaigning body for students at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).  Like other Students' Unions, it also funds and facilitates student activities of campus, including societies, sports clubs through the Athletics Union (AU), the Media Group and Raising and Giving (RAG) charitable fundraising initiatives.

About the job

We are currently looking for enthusiastic students to join our student staff team in the LSESU Bars and Event Team.  The LSESU Bars and Event Team provides excellent service of food and drink within the Saw Swee Hock building, including The Three Tuns Bar, the Venue, and a variety of event spaces. Our team serves LSE students, staff & alumni, as well as a wide variety of external clients.

You will support the day-to-day operations of the LSESU Bars (Tuns and Venue), ensuring that the bars are run in accordance with our policies and procedures as well as Health and Safety standards. During opening hours, you will provide high-quality customer service and maintain a strong working knowledge of our products and offerings.

Outside of the bars, you will be responsible for food and drink service and event support as needed. Being the face of our Team, you will be expected to deliver positive and professional interactions with our customers and guests, meeting and exceeding their expectations.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for confident, approachable students (undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible to apply) who enjoy providing a high level of customer service and have a passion for entertainment and social activities. You will need good communication skills with the confidence to actively engage with customers, strong multi-tasking and organisational skills, and an ability to improvise and adapt on the fly.  Attention to detail is a must, as is the willingness to work occasional late hours and odd shifts. Previous bar and/or event experience will be great to have, but not necessary to fill the role.

Why apply?

Because you’re excited by the challenge! The exact opposite of corporate, we’re progressive, daring and creative individuals working to make a difference in unconventional workplaces.

There will be opportunities to take lead roles in challenging situations, expand working knowledge of events and event-delivery, and work closely with other departments and external clients.

And, of course, we're in the business of helping people have a good time!

Benefits and Perks

In return for your passion and experience we offer:

  • London Living Wage + holiday pay

  • 10% staff discount in the Denning & Weston Cafes

  • Flexibility for work-life-study balance

  • Enhance your CV

  • Gain practical work experience in lively bar, club and event situations
