It’s Germany, in 1891, a society where adults hold all the power. Children are to be seen and not heard, and are expected to conform to the society that keeps them in the dark. The story follows a group of teenage students, attempting to find self-discovery and coping with coming of age.

The story follows Melchoir and Wendla, two characters who whilst in the pursuit of self-discovery commit the unthinkable, having grave repercussions for both characters. Elsewhere, Moritz finds himself traumatised by puberty, leading him to fail in school. The lack of care from his parents and pressure from exams leads Moritz to his turmoil. But, Moritz is on his own, everybody else has their own burdens to bare.
