Penal Reform

Penal Reform

We are a society that is aimed at bringing about a space where students can discuss the way forward for penal reform, making use of the wide range of expertise of the LSE’s academics and students and to start to bring about change within the justice system.

A brief outline of last years calender:

- Discussion with ex-offender Jonathan Robinson

- Petition calling for the government to urgently look into the safety in prisons

- Prisons and Pizza film night

- Debate 'TBW abolish prisons'

- Photo campaign with prison cell

This year, we have gained funding from the Student's Union and the Director's fund to establish a project which works with youth ex-offenders. Youth re-offending rates in England are at a shocking 38% and have increased by 5.6 % since March 2010. The aim of the project is to assist the student's obtain employment when leaving school. Applications to work on the programme open in late September
