The Special Situations and Distressed Assets Group is the only society at LSE fully devoted to uncovering value in event-driven opportunities and distressed markets.
We will focus on opportunities arising when companies face financial stress, market dislocation, or transformational events. Members will study how both equity and debt investors approach distressed or event-driven scenarios, from balance sheet restructurings and bankruptcies to spin-offs, recapitalisations, and activist interventions. We will analyse how mispricing emerges during uncertainty and how investors capture upside through turnaround equity, post-reorganisation plays, or undervalued event-driven trades. Activities will include case studies on companies undergoing distress or strategic change, investment simulations, and speaker sessions with industry professionals. By blending credit, equity, and macro perspectives, members will develop a holistic understanding of how to identify and evaluate high-risk, high-reward opportunities in volatile markets.
