The Holborn Union is the society at LSE that engages in vital discussions on contemporary issues in a chamber style format.
Welcome to the Holborn Union Society.
The Holborn Union is LSE's premier chamber based discussion society dedicated to engaging students in vital debates and QnAs on contemporary issues facing society.
What We Do At the heart of the Holborn Union is our commitment to fostering rigorous, informed debate on the most pressing issues of our time. Our chamber-style format encourages students to develop their critical thinking, public speaking, and analytical skills while engaging with diverse perspectives in a structured, parliamentary setting. We do not offer training or engage in any national or international competitions.
Our Flagship Events Aside from the regular chamber style discussions, we seek to regularly invite distinguished speakers from politics, academia, journalism, and public life to engage directly with our student community. These sessions provide a unique opportunity to both challenge prominent voices and exchange ideas to gain insight into those in public life.
Holborn Union Questions Inspired by Prime Minister's Questions, this exciting format brings the energy and intensity of Westminster to LSE. Students can put questions directly to invited guests in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that mirrors one of British politics' most famous traditions.
Why Join? Whether you're an experienced debater or have never spoken publicly before, the Holborn Union welcomes all students interested in engaging with ideas that matter. Our society offers:
Skill Development: Improve your public speaking, listening, argumentation, and critical thinking abilities. Networking Opportunities: Connect with influential speakers and like-minded peers. Intellectual Engagement: Discussions surrounding the issues shaping our world today, often touching on breaking case studies. Inclusive Community: A welcoming environment for members of all backgrounds and experience levels.
