About us
With over 300 annual members, the German Society is one of the largest and most active student societies on campus — and among the biggest German student societies worldwide. We promote interest in German culture, politics, business, and language through a diverse program of events.
Our flagship German Symposium, now in its 25th year, has become a landmark event at LSE, attracting international recognition and world leaders such as former Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel, European Commission President Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, former French President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. Under the motto “Marking Milestones”, the 2026 Symposium will address today’s geopolitical and economic challenges — rethinking future strategies and exploring how political and economic rulebooks must evolve for a stronger, collective future.
Throughout the year, we host career events ranging from workshops to networking dinners with our sponsors and partners. A highlight is the German Career Dinner, where students connect directly with representatives from top firms in finance and consulting and gain first-hand industry insights.
Beyond the Symposium and our career initiatives, we offer social highlights such as our monthly Stammtisch, the annual Oktoberfest, ice skating before Christmas, our Carnival party, beer pong tournaments, and many more — often in collaboration with other LSE societies and German student societies across the UK. The German Society is a place for debate and dialogue, unforgettable socials, and building true friendships that make your time at LSE truly special.
