Byelaw Changes – Societies Wellbeing & Inclusion Roles

We're glad to announce the results of the January 2026 Additional Student Members' Meeting. This was called by the Board of Trustees, after Activities and Communities Officer Sachin Bhopal-Myers requested a meeting to pass his proposed Byelaw change.

Sachin's proposal was to mandate a Wellbeing and Inclusion role on all sports club and society committees. To do this, the Byelaws, which shape the powers and governance structures of the students' union, needed to be changed through an Additional Student Members' Meeting.

Specifically, this proposal changed the section 'Byelaw 5 - Student Activities', and added a stipulation that if committees fail to recruit for this role after two election cycles, the responsibilities of the role will fall to the Secretary. This was added to the proposal following consultation with LSESU's Democracy Committee.

Additional Student Members' Meetings do not have a quorum, and the motion passed with 100% approval. Abstentions, of which there was one, do not contribute toward the vote share.

Following the successful Byelaw change, Sachin commented "I'm delighted that we've embedded this long-lasting change into our governance. Every student should be an ambassador for a positive culture within their club or society, and this new role will help to facilitate that. As a Sabbatical Officer, I'm really glad to have used my representative role to make a positive change for our student groups."

If you're unsure about the implications of this change on your society, please get in touch with the activities team at LSESU: su.societies@lse.ac.uk
