About us

Konnichiwa! The LSESU Japan Society is one of the most diverse societies on campus that aims to share the unique culture and traditions of Japan. Throughout the year, we host a variety of social and cultural events - food events, movie nights and much more!

We are the perfect society to join if you want to experience Japanese culture, learn the Japanese language and get information on careers in Japan! Most importantly, we are here to help you socialise and meet other students who share similar interests with you.

A question we were often asked at Welcome Fairs was whether non-Japanese students could join us. The answer is, of course, YES! Any LSE student can become a member and we are excited to get to know you :)

Membership

By purchasing membership, you will receive discounts to all of our paid events and have access to our free Japanese language classes and career seminars. Your membership fee will help us organise enjoyable events (and serve you high-quality snacks).

If you are unsure of joining, we are planning to host a Give-it-a-go event at the beginning of Michaelmas Term so try to meet us then and have a think!

Events and Activities

Throughout the year we host a range of events including:

  • Sushi making, Sake tasting, seasonal Movie nights, Origami workshops and more.
  • This year we are planning to introduce virtual activities such as Game nights, Virtual trips to Japan, Streaming Japanese Performing Arts and Sports, etc.
  • Our free Japanese language classes are delivered by native speakers every week.
