Overview

At LSESU, we are committed to providing diverse opportunities for all students to engage in sport and physical activity. From structured sports clubs to flexible, low-commitment initiatives, our programmes are designed to ensure that every student can find a pathway that suits their interests and availability.

We place particular emphasis on addressing historically underrepresented groups at LSE, developing targeted events, projects, and communities that broaden participation. Through this approach, we aim to foster inclusivity, enhance student wellbeing, and strengthen the sense of belonging within the Students’ Union.

WHAT GROUPS ARE WE WORKING WITH?

We have identified several key student groups where we aim to create new and meaningful opportunities, using sport and physical activity as a way to bring people together. These groups include Black students, female students, disabled students, commuter students, postgraduate students, LGBTQ+ students, and international students.

Throughout the academic year, the Students’ Union will deliver projects shaped by both student feedback and Student Officer consultation. These may take the form of community groups, one-off or recurring events, as well as social media and information campaigns.

If you have ideas to help us improve our work, or feedback on any initiatives we have delivered, please get in touch with Dan Smith (Physical Activity and Wellbeing Coordinator) at d.smith15@lse.ac.uk.

SCOPE QUESTIONNAIRE

WHAT IS IT?

SCOPE stands for Supporting Communities by Optimising Participation and Engagement. The survey is designed to strengthen the inclusivity of our sport and wellbeing programmes by taking a more intersectional approach to delivery and development.

WHY DO WE USE IT?

Rather than viewing students through a single demographic lens, SCOPE recognises that identities are multifaceted. For example, a student attending a Black Student Sport Network session may also identify with other groups or experiences beyond ethnicity. By understanding these overlapping identities, we can provide better-targeted support, allocate resources more effectively, and ensure our initiatives reflect the collective needs of our diverse student community.
