Overview
Empowering women in sport and physical activity has been a long-standing priority for the Students’ Union. We recognise that women often face additional barriers to participation — from confidence and representation to access and inclusivity — and we are committed to breaking these down.
Through initiatives such as Women-Only Gym Spaces and Female Sport Spotlights, we create opportunities that are welcoming, safe, and tailored to the needs of women at LSE. These programmes not only encourage participation but also celebrate female achievement, representation, and leadership in sport.
Our aim is to provide varied, barrier-free ways for women to get active, connect with others, and feel empowered in the sporting environment. By tackling low participation rates and ensuring visibility for female students, we are building a culture where women’s involvement in sport is normalised, supported, and valued at every level.
Whether you are new to physical activity, returning after a break, or already passionate about sport, we want you to feel there is a space for you to belong, thrive, and be celebrated at LSE.
WHAT OTHER OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE?
This year, we are excited to continue our popular Women’s Only Gym Hour, providing a safe and supportive environment for female students to train with confidence.
In the New Year, we will also launch our brand-new Learn2Lift programme. Designed for all ability levels, this initiative will teach students not only the fundamentals of lifting but also how to apply expert techniques to build lasting strength through both compound and isolation exercises.
These initiatives are part of our commitment to providing meaningful, empowering opportunities for women to develop skills, build confidence, and feel supported in their sport and physical activity journey at LSE.
