About us
LSE Swimming is quickly becoming one of the most popular clubs at LSE and now has more than 90 official members. We cater to a large variety of skill sets and abilities, and have dedicated lanes during our training sessions for swimmers of different abilities, ranging from beginners through to competitive swimmers. This year, we were also shortlisted for Most Improved Club at the AU Awards!
In training sessions, beginners can choose to free swim or they can be helped with their technique from one of the team's committee members. For the intermediate and competitive swimmers, each session will have a structured programme created by the team captains that everyone will follow. These will typically range between 1,800m - 2,500m and will include technique sessions, short-distance sessions and long-distance sessions to ensure that our members improve in all aspects of swimming. At the end of each session, we will often have some fun relay races, which our members have really enjoyed! New this year, we also offer a weekly hour-long gym session and a land training/dryside session, giving members the chance to build strength and conditioning alongside their swimming.
In terms of competitions against other universities, the main events we attend are part of BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport). Each year there is one short course competition and one long course competition, giving members the chance to compete against other university teams from across the country.
As the club continues to grow and more competitive swimmers join the team, we're looking to build on this further by introducing some friendlies against local universities. These fixtures are a great opportunity for members to gain competitive swimming experience alongside their training. We hope to attend as many competitions as possible this year!
Throughout the year, we run numerous social events. Every Wednesday evening, the whole team gets together to socialise before we head to the AU's social event at the famous Sway Bar & Club. Mixed in with these weekly socials, we usually organise around 3 or 4 club dinners throughout the year where the whole team goes out for a meal, typically a curry, burger or Chinese food. We also attend several events organised by the AU, including Carol and the AU ball. All of these events are a fantastic way to get to know others within the team and help to build team spirit!

Membership
We have 2 different swimming memberships to cater to every student’s needs:
- Competitive: This gives you access to all 4 of our weekly training sessions. It allows you to swim in whichever lane is best suited to your ability - whether that's beginner, intermediate, or our dedicated competitive lane - following a programme created by the team captains. This membership also gives you the option to take part in any of the competitions we enter throughout the year, including all BUCS events, so whether you're just starting out or looking to compete, this is the membership for you.
- Social: This membership only gives you access to our socials throughout the year, such as our socials on Wednesday evening, clubs dinners, or the AU ball
We will be hosting some free give-it-a-go sessions at the start of term, so feel free to come along to these before you purchase your membership.
*Due to the limited capacity at Oasis Swimming Pool, we won't be able to accommodate all of our members for every training session. There will be a weekly sign up sheet that will be sent out on the WhatsApp groupchat, and training slots will be allocated to swimmers who have both purchased a membership, AND signed up on the excel sheet. Training slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis.*
*Training sessions will end in the April/May period*
