LSESU is committed to the safety and wellbeing of its members and staff, as well as any adult or young person—at-risk or otherwise—who engages with any activity the Students’ Union provides, on or off campus.

If you are concerned about a student’s wellbeing or safety, please complete the Cause for Concern form to inform the Student Wellbeing Service, providing as much information as you can.  

You can use LSE’s Report and Support system to report an incident you experience or witness, speak to a trained adviser, get support and guidance, or be directed to relevant LSE and/or LSESU services. 

 

 

 

If a member of LSESU, its staff, or a member of the public is in immediate danger or posing a risk to themselves or others, then you should call the emergency services on 999.

GUIDANCE FOR UNDER 18S

LSESU has a duty of care to all students, but extra considerations need to be made in relation to those who are under the age of 18, and therefore defined as children under the Children’s Act 1989. Student Group responsibilities relating to the safeguarding of Under 18s can be found within the 'Safeguarding and Emergency Procedures' section of the compulsory 'Student Leader Training' Moodle Module (see here), but key points are also listed below.

UNDER 18s x STUDENT GROUP ACTIVITIES

  • Under 18s won't be able to purchase memberships to Clubs and Societies via the LSESU website until some additional measures have been completed.
  • The first step for Under 18s wanting to join a Student Group is to ask their parent/guardian to complete and submit a permission form - see here.
  • Once that's been done, please email su.sport@lse.ac.uk (Sports Clubs) or su.societies@lse.ac.uk (Societies) to let us know, and we'll then be able to add you to the relevant memberships list required for purchasing Club/Society memberships.
  • Please note, however, that there are some restrictions on activities for Under 18s - see below.

RESTRICTIONS FOR UNDER 18s

  • Under 18s are unable to engage in the following Student Group activities.
    • Attend overnight Trips.
    • Take responsibility for running a Student Group Event.
    • Run for (or hold) Committee Positions.
    • Attend events centred around drinking Alcohol.
    • Any other event deemed inaccessible for Under 18s.
  • Under 18s are also unable to join or take part in the following Clubs and Societies:
     
    • All BUCS/LUSL Competitions
    • Rugby
    • Surfing
    • Equestrian and Polo
    • Combat clubs (competitive)
    • Rock Climbing
    • Wakeboarding
    • Snowsports
    • Outdoors and Hiking
    • Motorsports
    • Any other alcohol-based Student Group

STUDENT GROUP RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With the support of LSESU, Student Groups running events involving Under 18s must update safety procedures and Risk Assessments for their activities accordingly.
  • Ensure that all Students’ Union, and National Governing Body procedures are followed.
  • Ensure that all students attending your activity have purchased the required membership.
  • Organise a variety of inclusive activities (i.e. events not involving / centred around the consumption of alcohol).
  • Comply with the LSESU's policies relating to general Health and Safety, Under 18s, and Safeguarding (see links above).
