LSESU Welcome Week Freshers Fair 2023

Business & Investment Group

We stand as the LSE's largest society. We offer our members unparalleled service, providing them with career resources, internship opportunities, networking sessions, interactive workshops, and more.

The LSESU Business & Investment Group is the largest and most active society at the London School of Economics. It is the premier finance and business society in Europe. It was established in 2019 through the combination of the two largest and influential societies, the LSESU Investment Society (founded in 2003) and the LSESU Business and Finance Guild (founded in 1996).

With each society having built a strong reputation, we are committed to maintaining our professionalism, dedication, innovation and creativity. Welcoming members from all backgrounds, our offering as a society is split across two main areas:

1) Enabling students (no matter their year of study or degree programme) to gain insight into a broad range of careers

2) Supporting those with sustained interest to make the most competitive applications to that industry.

Leading in what we do and partnering where possible, LSESU Business & Investment Group has become an integral part of life for students who are (or seek to be) career-minded. This includes our group chats which welcomed over 500 first-year students as part of the Spring Week application process in 2022/2023. Having now launched our continually updated Application Tracker, membership to the society will enable you to be at the forefront of support, guidance and knowledge.

We are proud to have worked and built relationships with Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Citi, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Rothschild & Co, Nomura, Barclays, Lazard, Evercore, DC Advisory, EY, PWC, Deloitte, Accenture, Oliver Wyman, Allen & Overy, GIC, Glencore, Fitch Learning, CIMA, Bloomberg Institute, KEA Consultants, Orbis, Grad Diary, Coaching Assembly, TeachFirst, Oxford Business Group, Finimize, Qbera Capital and SPX Asset Management.

We aim to maximise the potential of our members and committee, equip them with the technical and professional skills needed to succeed in their chosen profession, and develop leaders for the 21st Century. Our career resources span investment banking, markets, alternative investments, consulting, entrepreneurship & tech, and law. Previous members have gone on to secure highly competitive roles across the sectors which we cover.

BIG Conversations, our flagship event series, regularly brings high-profile guests to LSE, including CEOs, entrepreneurs, politicians, and executives. Our Corporate Relations team adds to our event offering by organising an array of exciting year-round sessions including keynotes, corporate presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops. Past event topics have included public finance, the hedge fund industry, the private equity industry, financial laws, environmental finance and micro-finance.

Our educational project initiatives provide selected members with training and hands-on experience that will help them succeed in their career of choice. Our project ventures include:

·       M&A Group, which provides fundamental valuation training to a select group of student-analysts each year;

·       BIG Capital, our real money investment fund (with plans to launch in 2023/2024);

·       Investment Research Group, whose analysts and associates produce a fundamental analysis of securities and original investment theses;

·       London Strategy Group, whose consultants provide pro-bono services to charities and organisations.

Focal Point, our very own podcast, is a useful resource for all LSE students looking to sharpen their commercial awareness while offering selected members the opportunity to develop editing, writing, and relationship management skills. Since its inception, the podcast has welcomed guests including Howard Marks (Co-Founder and Co-Chairman, Oaktree Capital Management), Scott Bok (CEO and Chairman, Greenhill), and Sir Charles Bean (Former Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy, Bank of England).

We also offer a flagship mentorship scheme, which facilitates connections between members and promotes sharing resources and ideas between students in different year groups.
