The Chess Society provides a welcoming space for players of all levels to learn, play and compete, while representing the LSE nationally and across London.
The LSE Chess Society provides space, equipment and opportunities for students to play chess at every level. Whether you're picking up the game for the first time or competing seriously, there's a place for you.
We field teams in the London Chess League (Division 4 and Major division) and represent LSE at the British Universities Chess Association Championship each year, where we won the Bowl back-to-back in 2024 and 2025 and finished runners-up in the Cup in 2026.
If competitive chess isn't your thing, we run regular drop-in sessions, internal blitz tournaments, inter-university friendlies and socials throughout the year — all open to every skill level.
Your £4 membership gives you access to weekly sessions, society equipment, internal tournaments, socials and the chance to represent LSE in competitive chess. Membership fees go towards tournament entry, travel and running costs for the club.
Elections for vacant Club and Society committee positions 2026-27.
