With an annual membership of roughly 500, the German Society is one of the largest and most active societies on campus and one of the largest German student societies anywhere in the world. The society promotes an interest in German culture, politics, business and language. Beside various social and cultural events, the German Society organises its annual German Symposium which will be held for the 21st time in 2022. The German Symposium has become a regular fixture on the LSE events calendar and has received international attention for welcoming some of the most influential leaders in modern history, including Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel, President of the European Commission Dr Ursula von der Leyen, former President of France Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and many more.
Under the guiding motto “Navigating Transitions”, the LSE German Symposium 2022 takes the pandemic not only as an opportunity to critically discuss these drastic changes but most importantly to explore how we can rethink political and economic rulebooks to overcome the deficits it has exposed in our society and build back better in the upcoming years.
Over the course of the academic year, the society organises additional social events such as monthly gatherings (Stammtisch) or the annual Oktoberfest and workshops with its sponsors including McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Bertelsmann, and many more. Together with its partner organisations in the UK and Germany, the society will deliver a great variety of events to cater to the diverse interest of its members.
With your membership you will benefit from free, early bird tickets to the German Symposium and priority access to intimate coffee chats with our speakers, such as Co-leader of the Green Party Robert Habeck or Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Members will receive up to 40% discount on tickets to all parties and events including the Oktoberfest and Symposium Afterparty.
Moreover, you will receive exclusive, weekly updates on social, cultural and academic events organised by the society and our partners.
Your membership also gives you the opportunity to apply for one of the officer and head positions of the society. Become an active part of the organising committee and shape the society.
