About us:

The LSESU Hayek Society promotes classical liberalism and free market economics among LSE students. It is a society for the mutual exchange of ideas, and is named in honour of Nobel Laureate Freidrich August von Hayek, who lectured at the London School of Economics from 1931 until 1950.

We organise lectures on economics, law, political philosophy and history and advertise job and internship opportunities to our members thanks to our links with UK and US think tanks. We also run social events such as film screenings, society dinners and pub nights.

We have good relations with libertarian organisations in other universities and nationally.

Membership:

We have two types of memberships: standard and associate memberships. Standard membership is only available to LSE students at just £2.00 per academic year.

It gives members access to our all our events and subscription to our newsletters, which provide some exciting opportunities to meet like minded students in the university and beyond.

Members are also entitled to stand and vote in the elections.

Benefits also include access to our events and receiving our newsletter, but not to stand or vote in elections. Membership of the Hayek Society is not exclusively political and the society is not affiliated to any political party.

Events and Activities:

Over the course of the academic year, we hold a wide range of events on a multitude of topics which include:

  • Debate with the Marxist society.
  • Hosting those who are involved in the field of politics, from parliamentarians to campaign organisers.
  • Hosting academics with expertise in relevant areas of the society.
  • Dinners and events outside university campus.
  • Regular socials.
  • Interuniversity events with other societies at the LSE.
  • Collaborations and events with societies from other universities.
  • Internship resources and assistance.
