Austrians at LSE have always played a unique role. Following the footsteps of Friedrich Hayek, Karl Popper & Co while enjoying LSE's academic rigour, Austrians and Austrophiles can find a home away from home in the Austrian Society. Celebrating our rich culture with a London touch, we invite everybody who is passionate about the country of mountains, music, art and wine (or beer, whatever you prefer)!
Our activities range from popular gatherings in our Stammlokal, the Old Bank of England, to Austrian wine tastings, waltz dancing lessons or participating at the opening ceremony of the semi-annual Austrian Ball in London. Once or twice a term, we invite exciting Austrians to visit us for a Gemütlicher Abend - called Austrian Talks: Previous guests include Dr. Andreas Treichl (CEO Erste Group), Dr. Ewald Nowotny (Governor of the Austrian central bank), Hans Peter Haselsteiner (entrepreneur and politician) or Maria Vassilakou (Deputy Mayor of Vienna), among others.
Together with the Austrian Societies of Imperial College, King's College, UCL, Cambridge, Oxford and Queen Mary, we form a strong network of students from all over Austria, working closely with the Austrian Embassy London and the Austrian Club London (ACL). We are proud to partner with the Vienna office of McKinsey & Company as well as the famous confectionary firm Manner.
