About us

The LSESU Hellenic Society was established in order to bring together students who are Greek or are interested in Greece, and create a home away from home for LSE undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Our aim is to reflect on the fascinating past, understand the complexities of the present, and contribute to the shaping the future, by reconciling the Greek, European and international identities of our members.

The dynamic community of the LSESU Hellenic Society is based upon the frequent organisation of events, which might take the form of conferences and seminars, featuring notable speakers, which explore the pressing issues of our era and act as platforms for debate and fruitful discourse.

We also hold a number of career events and networking opportunities, to mainly help students find their true calling in the professional world and launch a successful career in the UK or Greece.

Finally, fully believing that entertainment is more than required during our university life, we do host many social events and gatherings, centered around the Greek culture, contemporary or not.

Membership

Purchasing a membership to our society will give you access to all of our events - professional, academic and social - and will render you eligible for potential trips, conferences or applications affiliated with the Society.

Your membership fee goes towards the running of the club, and the organisation of unique events.

As a member, you'll get the opportunity to not only develop closer ties with your university but you'll also meet loads of like-minded and awesome individuals that will become your friends for life.

Events and Activities

Over the course of the year we host a wide number of events, on an almost weekly basis. For instance, over the past few years, we had organised the following events and we are committed to offer similar - if not more exciting - opportunities, this year, adjusted to the new reality that we are all experiencing:

  • The conference 'Greece 2021: Reflecting on Yesterday, Shaping Tomorrow' which investigated the past, analyzed the present, and deliberated on the future of Greece through four panels on Politics, Society, Economics & Innovation, and International Relations, featuring distinguished speakers from the academic, and policy-making world (e.g. Nikos Dendias, Niki Kerameus, Margaritis Schinas, Evangelos Venizelos, Marco Veremis etc.). You can watch a session here!

  • Career events, such as LinkedIn workshops, webinars with employers and recruiters (e.g. BlackRock), 'match-making' between alumni and current members depending on their professional orientation, and panels with professionals, who represented institutions, such as the following D.E. Shaw, BlackRock, Deutsche Bank, Barclays, Wells Fargo, Milbank LLP, Slaughter and May, Allen & Overy LLP, Deloitte and EY.

  • Social events, such as Meet & Greet sessions in the beginning of the year, house parties, dinners in Greek restaurants, Christmas and Carnival events, as well as Tsiknopempti, and Vasilopita events!
