Now more than ever it’s going to be tricky to meet new people at uni, so joining a political society is really the best way to meet like-minded people. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to become involved in the front line of student politics, fighting for what you believe in on campus and beyond.
As you might know, LSE was founded on the principles of Fabian socialism. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, the sinister forces of neoliberal capitalism (and investment *ankers) have combined to make parts of LSE a hotbed of corporate greed (look no further than the LSE Tories x).
As a society, we seek to challenge, on campus and in the wider community, entrenched inequality, discrimination and exploitation. It’s been one hell of a year, beginning with a relentless winter canvassing schedule (let’s not mention how that turned out...). Following the election, we thought we would have a chance to host all the events we had postponed for canvasing but then we all know how a certain government handled a certain virus. However, this means we’ve got all the more exciting things lined up for the coming year (see events section).
We’re a society for everyone: from those heavily invested in politics and longstanding Labour members to people just starting to explore their political beliefs, and everything in between. Join us for political panels and debates, topical round table discussions, pub trips, canvassing, pizza nights and much more (COVID permitting…).
Our membership is £1.50, the least we’re allowed to charge! Cost shouldn’t be a barrier to anyone thinking about joining as we are open to all, but the low cost doesn’t indicate low quality.
Buying membership is a great way to begin or consolidate your time in the Labour movement. Becoming a member allows you access to our mailing list so you’ll be the first to find out about our events. You can also vote in our elections, from nominations to committee positions.
Your membership fee also enables us to improve the events we host for you: all of the money goes back into events and campaigns throughout the year providing (amongst other things) food and drinks at our socials and generally having good times.
